2018 Tech Inspection & Info.

2017 Tech Inspection, Reminders & Info.

I wanted to send out a message of reminders and information about the 2017 season.  First off, as most of you know, our schedule has been posted for a while and the rules are also available on our website: www.racedtra.com.  Also if you are planning to race in 2017, the Membership Forms are now due and are also available on our website.

Regarding rules, the biggest change this season is the adoption of the 604 Crate Engine only, rules.  I encourage all of you to read and reread the rules regarding the crate engines as there is no gray area regarding what a legal crate engine is.  If you have questions, now is the time to ask, not when you get to the track.  As a reminder, there is a preseason inspection every year and it is mandatory.  This season it will be even more important that your truck is inspected on the scheduled date.  We have no “home track” this year so, your truck must be inspected before you get to the track.  The scheduled date for this year is April 8th.  The inspection will be held at the Karl Performance faculty.  We will use door #5 which is located on the south side of the building, located at 5927 NE Industry Drive, Des Moines.  Inspections will be done beginning at noon thru 3:00 PM.

Another item about tech inspections, most of you know, I will not be handling the race day tech in 2017.  Our Tech Inspector this season will be Doug Weiss.  Most of you will know Doug from the Iowa State Fair Speedway as he handled the task of Tech Inspections for the IMCA classes and assisted me too, last year.  You will be introduced to Doug on inspection day, April 8th.  I will also be present on April 8th to assist Doug in getting the season started.  Though I will not be at the tracks, most of the time, I will remain on the Board of Directors, will assist on any necessary rules interpretations, will assist Doug when he asks and I will stay involved in an executive capacity, maintaining the season points and the website.

As always, I ask if you know someone who will be participating in DTRA events and they are not on this mailing list, please pass this information on to them.  And above all, go out there and have some fun racing with the Karl Chevrolet Dirt Truck Racing Association.

I wish you all the best of luck!
Chuck

2016 Tech Inspection Date Set

Well guys, it is that time of the year already.  With opening night scheduled for Friday, April 15th, it is time for our annual pre-season tech inspection.

As stated in section U. Tech Procedures, item #2:  A pre-season tech of each truck is required. DTRA officials will inspect the roll cage, suspension pick up points, safety equipment, body requirements, engine location and wheel base. Upon passing tech the DTRA official shall place an inspection sticker on the truck indicating that the truck has passed the pre-season inspection. In the event that a truck is not inspected during a scheduled pre-season tech inspection, they will be required to contact the DTRA Competition Director and make arrangements for that truck to be inspected before competing in any DTRA event. Trucks inspected after the scheduled pre-season tech date will be assessed a $50.00 inspection fee.

Our pre-season tech will be held on Tuesday night April 12, during the practice session at the Iowa State Fair Speedway.  Practice time and inspection time will be the same, 6:00pm – 9:00pm.  If you have questions, contact me at: cstowe@winning.com, I will reply by phone or email as soon as possible.

I wish you all good luck with your racing efforts for the 2016 season; see you at the races . . .

Update! 4-16-2013

I will hold a final inspection for the 2013 season this coming Thursday night, April 18th.  The inspection will be from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm  and will take place on the commercial service drive at Karl Chevrolet.  This will be the third inspection date and I have no intent of scheduling another.  As a reminder,  2013 Rules; Section U. Tech Procedures, Item #2. A pre-season tech of each truck is required.  DTRA officials will inspect the roll cage, suspension pick up points, safety equipment, body requirements, engine location and wheel base.  Upon passing tech the DTRA official shall place an inspection sticker on the truck indicating that the truck has passed the pre-season inspection.  If you have any questions, you may e-mail me at: cstowe@winning.com.

Also, I have had some questions and interest in the fact that we are allowing the GM 604 Crate engine to compete and have a set of specific rules regarding the Crate Engine.  The rule regarding a legal Crate Engine may be found in the 2013 Rules; Section E. Engine, Item #12. Crate Engine Rules: Unaltered and sealed GMPP crate engine, part # 88958604 may be used in DTRA competition.  Upon inspection, any different or altered crate engines missing the GM seal bolts or IMCA style cable seals will result in disqualification causing the loss of ALL DTRA series points accumulated for the season, as well as any purse money for that particular event.  The second offence will result in a $1,000 fine and a one year suspension.  To clarify what the rule means,  The Engine must have the original bolts, just as it was sent from GM, and it must also have the IMCA style cable seal. Should there be an interest in competing with a Crate Engine without the original bolts and the IMCA cable seals, there are two options.  1. The engine may be taken to an authorized IMCA engine builder, the builder may contact a DTRA official, he may confirm with DTRA that the engine is in its original condition and verify that by sealing the engine with the correct bolts and the IMCA style cable seals.  Option 2.  The engine may be used for competition following the open engine rules per the 2013 Rules found in Section E. Engine, pertaining to open engines only, excluding 2013 GM Crate Engine rules.

One last item, if you have not sent your 2013 Membership in, please do so before the next DTRA event.  The membership may be sent to the address on the bottom of the membership form.  The deadline for the $50 membership every year is March 1st.  Anyone sending their membership after that date, needs to make sure they have sent $75 for their 2013 membership.

Please keep in mind, our new website is: www.racedtra.com and all information discussed in this e-mail, may be found on our web site.  I will also encourage you to check the website page “News” often, for information you may need to know, during the 2013 season.

Should you have additional questions, you may contact me by e-mail at: cstowe@winning.com

Update! 4-11-2013
